Obama Picks Biden
Aug 23, 11:33The waiting game is finally over as Barack Obama announced his selection of Joe Biden, Senator of Delaware, as his running mate for the 2008 election. Biden has represented Delaware as Senator since 1973 and certainly has a lot of experience.
In a sense Biden makes up for the areas Obama lacks. He has been in Washington for a long time and knows how everything works. He also has a lot of experience and credibility when it comes to foreign affairs, which is often seen as Obama’s weakest point.
Although the Delaware Senator does add a lot to Obama’s campaign, he may also hurt it too. Some are saying that Biden is the status quo and in no way goes in line with Obama’s vision of change. Hilary Clinton supporters are especially upset with the decision, especially because their candidate was not even considered (at least not publically.) Some have even compared the pair to Bush and Cheney, which certainly won’t be good for the Democratic campaign.
Exactly how things turn out is still questionable at this point, but it could go either way. All of the possible VP candidates do have their pros and cons, so it is likely that this sort of conundrum would exist either way. Some political experts claim that the VP choice seems like a big deal, but in reality it is not because in past years the VP choice has had very small effect on the polls and they expect it to be the same this time around.
